Easter Celebrations

14/4/2020

I am coming out …. I hope you do too

I was driving back home this morning after my gym workout and my mind wandered off a little to the coming Easter holiday.

Maybe it was the Egyptian bombings this week but I wondered if any Christians will be killed this weekend in Easter celebrations around the world and I started to question in my thoughts why most Muslims don’t have to fear bombings during their religious celebrations.

Why too are their so many of them, I asked myself, compared to other religions like Christianity? Then it occurred to me that they always proudly call themselves Muslims and most westerners hide their Christian beliefs so we seem to be a minority.

Now before you stop reading this because it is too controversial, I am not comparing, condoning or criticising anyone or any religion.

My thoughts therefore are based on numbers and why the Christian religion seems to be taking a back seat to other religions which I do not affiliate with.

I regard myself as a follower of what I call a Universal religion…a religion that allows me to be kind and caring to all humanity, to do the right thing by others based on love and to turn the other cheek where possible.

So my Universal religion does not require me to go to a place of worship to find peace or have a preacher tell me how to live a good life because we all innately know what is required of us to do the right thing, I believe.
I freely admit that I talk to my God every night before sleep to bless my loved ones and I hope like heck there is a heaven where I will be with loved ones again when my time to part this world comes even though I can’t prove there is one.

It is a religion that allows me to love and protect those I love and assist those who are in need, it surrounds me with people who are loving and caring and condone violence. It is a religion that does not demand anything of me other than do the right thing at all times.

Why is it then that I feel outnumbered in this world of religious fanatics and believers? I was sent to Sunday school as a child and I affiliate with people who were born and raised on Christian ethics and beliefs just as a founding fathers were but freely identify myself as no religion on the census. How confusing because my religion is based on Christian beliefs.

So I think it is time I came out and admitted I am a Christian thinker because it is opposite to anything that believes that I have to kill to go to heaven and doesn’t offer incentives to be violent nor does it encourage me to become radical.

It is time those of us that are believers of a Universal religion (and there are millions out there who probably are confused like I am and maybe label yourselves as atheists perhaps) realise that we cannot hide behind the no religion group, ‘I must be atheist’ believers and the embarrassed who want to project an image of anti-religion under peer pressure and realise that the Muslim, Hindu or Buddhist religions for instance have very few who openly reject their religion no matter want their radicals do.

I believe we must project a belief in something if we want to be heard as a spiritual group in this troubled world or we will be swallowed up and will become almost irrelevant. Forget the many brand names (Catholic, Anglican etc.) that come with the Christian religion and label yourself as Universal religion so at least it is pro Christian.

Yes, come out today and make yourself a follower of Universal religion which is based on Christian beliefs so we have much larger numbers so we can be heard about our worldly concerns and may God protect those innocents who what to celebrate this weekend.

Getting in your Zone of Life

Whenever former Prime Minister Paul Keating is in the news then I listen or read about what he has to say because I will be eternally grateful for the superannuation scheme he created and introduced.

His latest comments on the Grattan Institute Report suggested scrapping plans to raise compulsory super payments from 9.5 per cent to 12 percent and raising the retirement age to 70 are interesting.

Mr Keating suggested that Grattan Institute’s Chief Executive John Daley had a "miserable view" of the world.

Boomer Reunions.. Is it Time for Baby Boomers to Reminisce?

BONZA organised a high school reunion around 10 years ago and we had 600 fellow high school Boomers attend..just for the one school Indooroopilly High in Brisbane but it was great to invite 10 odd years of ex-students as you saw faces from the years before and after your year..ex army cadet leaders, prefects and sportsmen and woman who made school life so vibrant. Ex teachers were also invited and many were cheered as they spoke to the crowd.

I really enjoyed it and recommend it to you all..gather some ex classmates and reminisce to your hearts content.

In the last 10 years I have tracked down...

Aged Care Brutality

Thousands of you were upset by this picture of a lady allegedly attacked by staff in a nursing home that we placed on our FaceBook page and expressed your outrage.

There will never be a trial as she has dementia but I think we all saw a little of ourselves in this and have some concern for the future.

There will have to be repercussions..hopefully a Federal inquiry into the aged care industry and as an advocacy for all things about Boomers, BONZA encourages you to talk about how wrong it is to friends, family, social media and letters to the editor of your local media outlet....don't forget you members of parliament and don't give up..its your future so make a difference.
